Victoria Tetra Society, Annual General Meeting

March 29, 2004 at 6:30 p.m. at 820 Victoria Avenue, St Michael’s University School

 

In Attendance: Dave Marryatt, Nina Duffus, Tony Nordstrom (Chair), Don Hurd and Marnie Essery.

Regrets: Doug Pattison, John Neilson, Candina Collard, Cynthia Pearce and Nicole Zalinger.

 

The meeting was called to order at 6:45 by Tony Nordstrom (Chair).

 

The Yearly Financial Report was circulated around for people to see and was unanimously approved.

 

Tony passed the position of chair temporarily to Marnie Essery.

 

Nominations were received from the floor but the people being nominated declined the Executive positions. Nominations were closed.

 

The following people were elected by acclamation for a 1yr term to the Victoria Tetra Society Board of Directors: Tony Nordstrom, Nicole Zalinger (given permission to Tony prior to tonight’s meeting), Dave Marryatt, Don Hurd and Nina Duffus.

 

The Victoria Tetra Society Executive were elected by acclamation for a 1yr term. The new Executive is as follows:

 

President-Don Hurd

Vice-President- Dave Marryatt

Secretary-Nina Duffus

Treasurer- Tony Nordstrom

Director at Large-Nicole Zalinger (let Tony know that she was ok with taking this role)

Don assumes position of Chair.

 

No By-Laws were amended.

 

Don, Dave and Tony will be signers on the Victoria Tetra Society account. Don will go to the bank and set this up.

Victoria Tetra Society, 3rd Meeting of the Year 2004

Treasurer’s Report approved

-Marnie handed Tony a $10 membership for project#4103 and a $260 cheque from the   Norgaard Foundation.  Dave submitted receipts for the Glenshiel (project # 3092) for $139.20, project # 3075 for $26.85, project # 4098 for $210.10 and for project # 3093 for $51.43

 

 

Old Business

  1. Don has completed the Risk Management Program. Tony presented him with his official Tetra pin.
  2. Volunteer Appreciation Week starts April 18 and it was decided that Tetra would meet for a volunteer appreciation brunch on Sunday April 25 at South Bay Restaurant Suite 104, 2940 Jutland ( Phone#385-5643 ). Please call Marnie

      (474-5939) and let her know if you are able to come . Husbands, wives and     significant others are welcome too. Tetra will cover Brunch expenses.

  1. The Seniors Info Fair will be held on Wed April 14 at Pearkes Rec Centre and it was agreed to skip the costly ($175) booth and Marnie would attend and network on our behalf.
  2. The Tetra Society of North America will fund a 1 year membership to Volunteer Victoria ($75) and Marnie will complete the necessary forms. She will be in touch with Don about the next step.
  3. Marnie is awaiting details about where our booth will be and confirmation of time for our table at the Living with Spinal Cord Injury conference at UVic on

      Sat May 8.

  1. Brainstorming occurred with suggestions on how to get more people aware of and involved in Tetra. Some suggestions that were mentioned were talking to service clubs, seniors groups, more publicity, locating more creative people possibly through Destination Imagination etc.

 

 

Old Projects

1.      Project # 3093-has talked to Marnie and loves her wheelchair tray.

2.      Project #4096-modified wheelchair-Dave and Nina will go for a follow up visit.

3.      Project #3079-project on hold.

5.      Project # 3094-Don sharpened knife and she is going to get a new mattress. Project complete.

6.      Project #4100-Department of Veterans Affairs will do ramps, project aborted.

7.      Project #4095-decided it was better to buy a van than to put wheelchair in car, project aborted.

8.      The Glenshiel-Project #3092-completed step with railings, will meet with Activity Coordinator later this week.

9.      Project # 3078-arm rests were loose, bought stainless steel bolts and put on previos project. 2nd project completed.

10.  Project #4098-pedal bike completed.

 

New Projects

  1. Project #4102-via email-Don and Dave will visit him about modifications to a motorcycle.
  2. via email-in Chemainus-Marnie phoned and hasn’t heard back from him.
  3.  Project #4104-emailed Marnie and they would like to modified a pool table so child can play pool. Nina and Dave will visit them.
  4. Project # 4103- specialized stool-Dave and Don are working on.
  5. Project # 3086-has bought a van and wants Don and Dave to put a divider in van.

 

New Business

  1. The Victoria Tetra Society is changing its meeting date. We will now meet the first Monday of each month. Our next meeting will take place on Monday May 3 at 6:30 at 820 Victoria Avenue, St Michael’s University School. Please note there will be no meeting in April.
  2. Don will follow up with the Calgary Tetra email re bicycle suggestions.
  3. Chris Whitehead, Producer of Shaw’s Daily program has not yet called Dave or Don.
  4. It was decided that we would not attend the Sidney Advisory Committee’s Access Fair due to a small turnout in recent years and no real publicity of the event.
