Victoria Tetra Society, First Meeting of the Year 2004

Monday, January 26 at 6:45 p.m.

St Michael’s University School (Junior), 820 Victoria Avenue

 

In Attendance: Marnie Essery, Tony Nordstrom (Chair), Dave Marryatt, John Neilson, Don Hurd, Nina Duffus and Cynthia Pearce.

Regrets: Doug Pattison, Candina Collard and Henk Oudt.

Henk Oudt has started to volunteer with Saanich Volunteer Drivers and has decided to not continue with Tetra.

Treasurer’s Report

It was accepted as presented.

 

Old  Business

  1. Community Diversity Presentation-Tues Feb 3 at 10:15 at Glen Lake Elementary-Dave, Don and Marnie will be there and Tony will try and get the day off so he can also attend.
  2. A thank you letter from Miss Penny was read to the group. A copy of this was faxed to the Tetra Society of North America.
  3. Marnie still needs to receive Cynthia and Nina’s Technical Volunteer Application form.
  4. Don Hurd has completed 5 Tetra projects with a buddy, has shown consistent attendance at Tetra meetings and participated in Tetra functions. He is now finished Tetra’s risk management process and will be officially recognized at the March Tetra meeting
  5. The Seniors Transit and Info fair has had the date and location changed due to access concerns. Marnie will update us of the new date as soon as it is confirmed. Tetra will have a display at this event.
  6. It is with sadness that Marnie and Dave shared the passing of Tetra member Howard Roberts. Dave went to the funeral on our behalf. Marnie had sent a thinking of you card in Oct. and then a sympathy card to his wife, Eleanor, in December on behalf of Tetra.

 

Old Projects

  1. -Project #2071 and #3087-Doug has heard nothing. Marnie will try one last  attempt to contact them.
  2. -Project #2050- Tony has modified bike lever and put 2 shifters on one hand, got a new derailer for him. Project work almost complete.
  3. -Project #3083- Nina contacted and the caregivers are helping with bathing. The apparatus Tetra made is not needed and it was returned to Nina, refunded membership.
  4. -Project #3094-Don and Dave will work on.
  5. -Project #-4097-Dave and Don working on a bath seat.
  6. -Project # 4098- Dave and Don are working on, she needs a leg moving machine. The group brainstormed possible ideas.
  7. -Project #3093-Dave went to visit Daffoni and is working on a wheelchair tray.
  8. -Project #3092-Dave will give Leslie a call.

 

New Business

  1. Seniors Info Fair-At Pearkes Rec Centre-Marnie is in the process of registering Tetra for a booth. The Tetra Society of North America will cover our registration.
    More details to be confirmed at the next Tetra meeting. Volunteers will be needed for this day.
  2. Living with Spinal Cord Injury Conference-UVic-May 8-Tetra will have a diplay there and volunteers to “man” the booth will be needed.
  3. The Victoria Tetra Society was given $210 from the Tetra Society of North America for volunteer recognition and a volunteer dinner. Marnie gave this money to Tony.
  4. Marnie will check with the Tetra Society of North America to see if they will cover our registration with Volunteer Victoria for 1 year.

New Projects

  1.  #4095-worked on device to get her in and out. Dave and Dad worked on this. Project on hold.
  2. -Project #4096- Nina and Cynthia will contact them and work on this project. Her child has multiple disabilities and needs a special seating system. Needs to fill out RFA and pay membership.
  3. -Project #4099-needs to fill out RFA and pay membership fee. He wants a book holder he can use for studying. Don will follow up on his email.
